Paek Kyung-Won
Abstract
This study intended to determine the prevalence rate of metabolic syndrome recently considered as a critical risky factor of cardiovascular disorders and also aimed to determine whether the family history of typical chronic disorders (hypertension, cardiovascular disorders and diabetes) have any significant relationships with metabolic syndrome.

The data used for this study were referred to the results of National Healthcare and Nutrition Survey(2001) from Korea Institute for Health and Social Affairs(KIHASA) and the subject of final analysis was the data from a population of 6,601 adults with 20 years old or older ages.

The prevalence rate of metabolic syndrome throughout all samples reached 27.3%. As a result, it was found that there were more or less significant differences in the family history statistically among groups.

As the healthcare habits such as smoking, drinking, exercise or the like may have more or less significant influences on metabolic syndrome. Hence, it is advisable that follow-up studies consider all factors that may affect metabolic syndrome.
